2:15 p.m. ET: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is testifying on Capitol Hill to answer lawmakers’ questions
Cardboard cutouts of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is testifying before Congress in just a few hours, were placed this morning.
The lookalikes are wearing T-shirts that read: “Fix Facebook.”
The stunt is the work of global activist group Avaaz, which wants Zuckerberg, Internet CEOs and government regulators to fight disinformation campaigns across Facebook and other social platforms.
“We know Facebook is doing things to address the fake news problem, but they are doing it in a way to that is too small and too secretive,” Avaaz campaign director Nell Greenberg.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has never testified before Congress. It’s rare for him to be interviewed in a setting not of his own choosing.
Here’s what we can expect from the hearings:
— Zuckerberg will lay out a series of steps the company is taking to safeguard data. That includes investigating every third-party app with access to user information and making it easier for users to see which apps have access to their data.
— He’ll acknowledge that Facebook was “too slow” in spotting and responding to “Russian interference” on its platform during the 2016 election.
Chances are, if you are a woman over 40, you are probably familiar with the term “batwings” to describe the stubborn fat and sagging skin that starts appearing under your upper arms around this age.
Though it’s difficult to completely avoid or correct, you don’t have to toss your tank tops in the trash, either. There are several actions you can take to significantly improve their appearance.
Flabby arms are due to a combination of factors associated with aging and genetics, including an increase in overall body fat mass (a greater portion of which localizes to the arms in some women due to genetics), loss of muscle mass in the arms associated with aging and reduced activity (causing the skin to hang more loosely on the upper arm) and a loss of elasticity in the skin due to both aging and sun damage from UV radiation, according to San Francisco dermatologist Dr. Richard Glogau.
The most effective way to target flabby arms is through exercise. Losing body fat is essential if you are overweight and building up your triceps muscles. Those muscles on the backs of the arms, which you probably don’t use that much in your day-to-day activity, can make a big difference in reducing flab there.
According to personal trainer Jennifer Cohen, you don’t need a gym membership or special exercise equipment to target this muscle. Doing these three exercises two or three times each week and reducing your body fat if it is too high, you should notice a difference in your upper arms in four to six weeks.

So how do women, specifically, interact with brands online?
Product review and discovery platform Influenster recently conducted a study to get the female perspective on the latest digital trends. Incorporating the views of more than 11,000 female internet users aged 18 and up, the Influenster survey uncovered some interesting findings, particularly in relation to how women shop and interact with brands online.
Among the findings, Influenster discovered that:
94% of women engage actively with brands online
31% of women interact with brands digitally on a daily basis
90% of women do so via their mobile phones vs. 53% on their laptops
In social-specific findings, Influenster’s research indicated that Instagram was the favoured platform for women to engage with brand content, with 81% of respondents marking it as their preference. Facebook (79%), Pinterest (56%), YouTube (51%) and Twitter (43%) rounded out the top five.
The research also showed that women primarily follow brands on social to learn about discounts and promotions, while photos were the most popular post type, with 9% of respondents saying they prefer photos over video (58%) and text updates.
And in a particularly relevant note – in response to the question “What makes you share a brands social post?” 91% of respondents chose “I like the brands post and want to share it with my followers”, with the second most popular option being “I like the brand/product/service and want to be associated with it 59%”
Both answers are aligned, which provides some further insight into the motivations behind content sharing behaviour – as has been indicated by various other studies, a large proportion of people share content in order to project a sense of who they are and what they care about. This is an important consideration in the content creation process.
Also, in regards to sponsored posts, Influenster’s research showed that while the majority of women (67%) don’t mind promoted posts, as they help teach them new things about the brand, 91% of respondents noted that they dislike promoted posts if they feel ‘spammy’. If you’re not targeting your content and ensuring your promoted material is aligned with your target audience’s interests, you could be doing your business more harm than good.
